How to take care of asters after winter?
In the springtime, asters will start to send up new green shoots. It is important to cut back all the dead growth to the ground before the new growth begins. It won't harm the plant if you don't get to it right away, it's just easier this way.Once it starts growing again, side dress with compost or slow release fertilizer and gently work it into the soil. Then, for every 6 inches the aster grows, pinch it back. Continue this until mid July and you'll be rewarded with very bushy plants with "oodles" of blooms.
