Picture of the sloop HMS "aster" sunk 1917?
+ You sure asked a difficult task. I can find vessels of the same class but not that particular ship. Keep trying as I am sure that there must be some somewhere. You might try a different venue to find that photo. Perhaps ships in a harbor 1916-1917 Malta?

Anyway here is a link to some of the sister ships

Good luck

It's a fleabane or aster of some sort, I'd need a lot more info to get it to species, and since I can't look at the flower heads closely I can't even be sure of the genus.
Reply:Very probably it is a member of Daisy family ( Asteraceae ), but it`s a pity, that the leaves and flowers are not clearly recognizable. All the while you know the details, so here some pics of Asteraceae to compare with:

What is the function of aster in cell division.?

The asters synthesize and extend polymeric spindle fibers in a dividing cell. These spindle fibers are like long chains that extend through the cytoplasm, and polymerize until they extend far enough to attach to the centromeres of diad chromosomes. Once attached, centromeres replicate and the fibers then recede back to the asters, splitting the diads apart and each monad chromosome then travels to opposite ends of the cell to provide a full chromosomal package to the newly formed daughter cell after division is complete.

What is the function of aster in cell division.?
Asters are formed in a cell during mitosis, sexual reproduction. Maybe the function is to divide the cell?

Take it from here. If you find out anymore info, e-mail me.

The info may one day come in handy.
Reply:In cellular biology, aster is a star-shaped structure formed in the cytoplasm of a cell having fibers like rays that surround the centrosome during mitosis.
Reply:it is the origin of spindle fibres it helps in pulling of the chromosomes

What does the packet mean when it says..?

"Pinch off stem tips once in early summer to encourage bushy growth"

This is an Aster (Crego Mix) flower... so, is the packet right? and what do i do?

What does the packet mean when it says..?
Hey Kendall,

After the plant begins to grow and has several levels of leaves, pinch the top leaves (little ones) off. Essentially you will be pruning the plant to encourage growth in the lower parts of the plant, to make it more bushy. This really works.
Reply:Break off the top ends of the plant so it will grow bushier instead of long and leggy.
Reply:You pinch off the center or main stem above several side branches an it will force even more side branches. Hence, more branches...........more flowers.
Reply:When a stem grows, it grows out of the tip of the stem and extends itself. When you want to encourage growth out of the side of the stem, pinch off (literally, with your finger tips) the growing end of the stem. This will stop the lengthwise growth and cause shoots to grow out of the sides of the stem.
Reply:nipping off a tiny bit with a few leaves from the growing tip of a seedling after it has put on some growth ,stops vertical spindly growth,in next to no time many lateral or side shoots appear, this makes your plant busy %26amp; gives you the opportunity of a good display of flowers, each branch will bear flowers ,so there, the packet has been right all along .

Friday the low is 31 degrees. Should I bring my potted plants inside?

Or will they be ok? I just planted them two weeks ago, they just started to sprout. Asters, lettuce, sunflowers, other flowers.

Friday the low is 31 degrees. Should I bring my potted plants inside?
If you have a small number of potted plants, and this is manageable for you, then I'd bring them to somewhere more sheltered, such as inside, in a shed, the garage etc.

Otherwise, you could help them with some protection. I use plastic bottles, cut in half, and positioned over plants, which provides a good few degrees protection. Otherwise, you can get gardening 'fleece', which you drape over plants, and this will help protect plants too - if it's ever really cold, you can always have both of these! Newspaper can work too, as long as it's not wet, and is secured from flying away in the wind. If you have any left-over card board boxes, these can work in the same way, all keeping the cold out.

Hope these tips help protect them. Good luck! Rob
Reply:The sunflowers should be ok (if they are protect from any howling winds) but the lettuce will die.

The other flowers should be ok, if they are protected

Try padding, pad the pots and put cling film over the top
Reply:You can cover them over, with sheet plastic or trash bags...weighted down with stones. If it is just a couple of plants, just put a pot upside down over them.
Reply:The lettuce is hardy and will be fine, but the rest are tender plants and will be killed by the frost.
Reply:if in pots , I would. They probably be ok. If you just covered with a paper cone they would be fine. Good luck. Nature tests us all the time
Reply:yes

I need a good system for trying to keep my house not a mess. I am a big packrat and very prone to let things?

go and need a system for keeping a better house and not wasting time on the computer but instead doing things like cleaning, exercising, organizing, eating better, and bringing more joy into my life.

I tend to be highly distractible and totally unscheduled. What tips might help me keep the house better and focus on things that have rewards instead of being time asters. My son just told me I also waste lots of time being introspective and I realized lately how much of my life has been wasted on worrying and feeling depressed and obsessing over things going wrong. Help please. I would most appreciate it as I am so depressed I don't want to live sometimes. I want to instead try to change some things

I need a good system for trying to keep my house not a mess. I am a big packrat and very prone to let things?
It sounds like you have OCD (obsessive/compulsive disorder). There is medication for it.

In the meantime. Do your chores in predetermined sets of 3 things to keep you on track. Then relax a bit as a reward, like going to your computer or sitting down, exercize or calling someone.

I throw away (or give away) one thing a day. That keeps me on my toes so I'm not keeping worthless crap. It feels good too to say goodbye to junk.
Reply:your other suggestion of the sets of three. Thanks to everyone who answered :) Report It

Reply:I really think you should try some counseling. There is nothing wrong with counseling and it really helps. I would also make a list everyday of a few things that you would like to get done each day and follow threw with them.Another thing is if you have now worn or used something in a year or more get rid of it. Also make sure after you do something clean up right after it is alot easier to just keep up.I think the list thing will help you get a start on things. After you can go from there
Reply:I would suggest:

If something has not been used by you in one year, give it away to friends, family, local thrift store.

If you are thinking of buying something, BEFORE you buy it, ask yourself: "How long have I lived just fine without one of these?" Learn to differentiate between LUXURY and NECESSITY.

There's nothing wrong with having an introspective personality, as long as you don't isolate yourself from friends and family. Then it is a problem.

I realized lately how I have been WASTING much time on the computer. It has no ETERNAL VALUE. In 1 day, it won't matter what emails we sent or received.

I don't know about you, but I need to get back into my New King James bible, church, and praying for others.

I sincerely hope you find your heart's desire in life.

PAMELA J.
Reply:Much of what you describe sounds as though you may have some major depression going on. Nothing will reduce energy and motivation like depression. So the first thing I would do is be evaluated for that. A good talk therapist and/or an antidepressant can totally change your outlook on life in a matter of a couple of weeks. It's almost impossible to feel joy when you're depressed. It has been said that if your outside environment is messy and cluttered, it is a sign that your insides are the same way. Get an evaluation and if depressed, get treatment right away. It has totally changed my life. Good luck.

How Do I Docorate A Vanity mirror?

(I have Aster walls with pink doors. And a huge mirror and I dont know what to do with it... HELP

How Do I Docorate A Vanity mirror?
It depends on what shape the mirror is and whether or not this is a bathroom used by men and women. I bought a large scarf (at Penney's, the kind you use for windows) and placed a nail at the top, you could use a decorative hook of any type, center it in the middle of the mirror, then drape it to each corner and hook it again, let it hang down. Very elegant and victorian looking. You can take it one step further by adding a long strand of beads, (crystal or pearl) to the scarf drape. Now if you have both a man and a women in the same bathroom everyday, this won't work. Then you could find a nice lace, nothing to fancy and hot glue it to the mirror. You can embellish the lace if like. And then you could always put lights around three sides of it. Ok that's it for my suggestions. Hope that gets the mind going on what to do.
Reply:They make a lot of stickers and cling strips that decorate Solutions catalog may have some that you would like.
Reply:Draw on it with the special markers or put like wooden framing around it. I'm not creative enough to do anything so I know how you feel!

How can i cure my dog's eyesore?

Recently, Aster (my dog) has this some kind of eyesore. The eye's area always gets wet, darker, and.. umm.. a little bit stinky. But one thing i know is that Aster never (or maybe seldom) scratch her eye. It seems not itchy for her, but i know it's bothering her. I dont know what causes this. Do you have any idea?

How can i cure my dog's eyesore?
infected eye? your symtoms describe what happened to my dog, Maia, and I just lost her from the infection. GO SEE A VET!

Best of luck, %26lt;:3)~~~
Reply:It sounds like Aster has an infection. This is not something you should attempt to treat on your own, please do the right thing and take her to the vet.
Reply:I think the best advice here is to see your vet ASAP if you don't want your dog to lose his eyesight. That could be something really minor, but the longer you wait the more serious the problem will become!!Good luck.
Reply:Put rose water in it thrice a day for a week.
Reply:Go to the vet.

Whos is better in Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Jesse Anderson or Aster Phoenix?

I want to make a deck, i am wondering what kind of deck i want to make. I wonder if i should make deck of Destiny Heroes or Crystal Beasts. So the real main question is which is better, Destiny - Heroes or Crystal Beasts? In my opinion i think that Aster Phoenix has a better deck then Jesse Anderson since Aster has Elemental Heroes just like Jaden and Jaden defeted Jesse with his Elemental Heroes. Since Aster has Elemental Heroes and Destiny - Heroes i think he is better then Jesse. I want to know your opinion to help me make this deck.

Whos is better in Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Jesse Anderson or Aster Phoenix?
defintly aster

go ddt or just pure destiny heros

elemental heros are crap

the only e-hero you should incude would be ocean and stratos in a d-hero deck i used to run them they are pretty good
Reply:destiny hero.
Reply:Crystal beats cause once you get all seven on the feild you can summon rainbow dragon
Reply:well i prefer crystal beast really because they have great support cards. also jesse loses to jadens new deck with neos. and jadan uses better cards then. plus he does beat aster in a rematch with only a few neo-spacians.

Are asters common fall flowers?

What are some common fall flowers that grow in warm weather markets (SD, Phoenix, Austin, Atlanta)? Any good resources for choices?

Are asters common fall flowers?
Hi, Yep- Asters are common fall flowers, in warm and cool climates now-a-days. In fact Asters will do a bit better in warmer fall climates over cold ones. Fall Mums will do very well in warm and cold alike... I would suggest Mums over Asters as their bloom lasts much longer, they desire less watering- almost none if planted in a good location... and they tollerate sun and some shade. Many hybrid Asters are available at Home Depot and Lowes but their blooming shelf life is limited and they often are a bit more pricey. If you intend to display as potted plants then I suggest leaning towards Mums.

Late Fall - in the areas you mentioned, you may want to include Pansies. They do very well when the weather cools, say below 85 (average) and right down to freezing. But wait until the weather cools as those ares are still very warm...
Reply:Aster is always the answer to the question in crossword puzzles calling for colorful fall flower! Plant mums and pansies (along with your asters) to give your garden a burst of color and beauty this fall. Pansies will bloom all fall into winter and then bloom again with your bulbs early the next spring. Mums are perennials that come back year after year to flower in the fall. I usually plant calendulas in the fall and they begin blooming in late winter or very early spring.
Reply:Yes. In fact, the Aster is the traditional flower for birthdays in September.
Reply:Any seed catalogue will give you a wide variety of zinnias and asters, covering spring through fall, most species of aster flower in late summer to fall and all grow well in warm climates. Try Burpee's catalogue.
Reply:mums and sedum. and yes , asters are fall flowers
