Picture of the sloop HMS "aster" sunk 1917?
+ You sure asked a difficult task. I can find vessels of the same class but not that particular ship. Keep trying as I am sure that there must be some somewhere. You might try a different venue to find that photo. Perhaps ships in a harbor 1916-1917 Malta?

Anyway here is a link to some of the sister ships

Good luck

It's a fleabane or aster of some sort, I'd need a lot more info to get it to species, and since I can't look at the flower heads closely I can't even be sure of the genus.
Reply:Very probably it is a member of Daisy family ( Asteraceae ), but it`s a pity, that the leaves and flowers are not clearly recognizable. All the while you know the details, so here some pics of Asteraceae to compare with:

What is the function of aster in cell division.?

The asters synthesize and extend polymeric spindle fibers in a dividing cell. These spindle fibers are like long chains that extend through the cytoplasm, and polymerize until they extend far enough to attach to the centromeres of diad chromosomes. Once attached, centromeres replicate and the fibers then recede back to the asters, splitting the diads apart and each monad chromosome then travels to opposite ends of the cell to provide a full chromosomal package to the newly formed daughter cell after division is complete.

What is the function of aster in cell division.?
Asters are formed in a cell during mitosis, sexual reproduction. Maybe the function is to divide the cell?

Take it from here. If you find out anymore info, e-mail me.

The info may one day come in handy.
Reply:In cellular biology, aster is a star-shaped structure formed in the cytoplasm of a cell having fibers like rays that surround the centrosome during mitosis.
Reply:it is the origin of spindle fibres it helps in pulling of the chromosomes
