Need japanese aster, white bloom, blooms from spring to winter?

I have some of those. They're pretty, kind of airy, and they do, indeed bloom from spring to frost, and come back every year. Work nicely between other flowers, like baby's breath in a bouquet.

I bought mine at a local independent nursery in McDonough, GA.

Where are the style and stigma in an aster or a bellis perenis?

Daisy "flowers" are really specialized structures that are usually made up of numerous small flowers. Each of these small flowers has its own style and stigma ... the style pushes up through a tube formed by the anthers and pushes the pollen out so that it can be picked up by visiting insects. The style is slit at the top and after the pollen-presenting phase it opens up to reveal the receptive stigmatic surfaces. The web site at the link shows this reasonably well.

The "petals" of the daisy flower are modified individual flowers. When present, they usually have a style/stigma but no stamens.

I should be reporting your question.. wtf.

How do I propagate my aster plant? Mine has just finished its flowering.?

Probably the easiest way (other than seed) to propagate a perennial is to divide the plant in spring. In fact, Asters benefit from annual or biannual division. Simply divide the tight woody crown with a spade or two back-to-back garden forks. Pull the crown apart into single rooted shoots and plant.

You can propagate Asters from seed. Collect the seeds from your spent flowers. They should germinate in about two weeks after planting. Don't plant seeds too deep. A seed should only be planted at a depth twice its diameter.

You can propagate from softwood cuttings. Use basal shoots, but stems can be used as well. Your best cuttings are always taken in the morning when the stems %26amp; shoots are turgid (flush with water). Root cuttings in a moss roll in a misting tent made with plastic-film and mist. http://www.thegardenhelper.com/cuttings....

go for grafting with a growing bud.
Reply:Sunset suggests that the softwood cuttings be taken early in the day and placed as soon as possible in a well-drained growing mix. Most successful cuttings root quickly, often within a week or two, and produce plants identical to the ones from which they were taken... http://www.paweekly.com/weekly/morgue/sp...

You can grow your own from seed although a careful spring division is also possible to give you a few extra plants. Divide as soon as the plant starts to show signs of life and before it blooms... http://www.gardening-tips-perennials.com...

If you plant an aster in a flower pot will it come back in the spring. I live in a 3 to 6 zone.?

not usually unless the plant itself is in the ground

not sure if aster is a annual or perennial

If you plant an aster in a flower pot will it come back in the spring. I live in a 3 to 6 zone.?
Please be more specific. There is no such thing as a 3 to 6 zone, at least in the US.
Reply:If you live in zone 3,4 or 5 and you left it outside. No. In zone 6, maybe, but doubtful. If planted in the ground, however, they will survive in zones 5 and 6

What chemical if sprayed on a Mum or Aster will keep it from blooming?

When is the correct time to prune back our Weigelia and Aster bushes?

My husband thinks they both should be cut down to within 4to6 inches from the bottom, and I need to know the correct way before he cuts them.

Thank you very much,

Charlotte

When is the correct time to prune back our Weigelia and Aster bushes?
Please don't let him do it! The asters can be cut back or allowed to die back from a heavy frost, then cleaned up. The weigela can be given a haircut, or a light pruning if it gets out of hand, but should not be pruned at all if you can help it.

Weigelas come in many varieties and sizes. If the one you have is too big for its spot, move it somewhere else and replace it with one of the dwarf varieties like "Midnight Wine".

The base of my aster is yellow and brown......?

I have a 3 year old aster that looks gorgeous until you look at the base. It is yellow and brown and looks like it is rotting. Does anyone know what this is and how I can treat it? Thanks!

The base of my aster is yellow and brown......?
The first answer may be close to your problem. Over watering or under watering can cause yellowing of the leaves. At least it's a good start. Try backing off the watering.

As far as diseases go, asters are not prone to a lot of diseases. Aster yellows can turn leaves yellow, but aster yellows start on the newer/younger leaves, not the oldest leaves at the base of the plant.

Aster wilt can start at the base of a plant and affect the stem too, but aster wilt causes stunting. I did not hear that your plants where stunted. Aster wilt will cause the lower leaves to yellow and eventually turn browm. There is no effective control for aster wilt. Remove infected plants from your healthy plants.

Lacebugs are a ridiculous suggestion considering its at the base of the plant. Bug damage tends to be random on a plant and lacebugs suck sap, so you would have yellow spots.

Powdery mildew is a white powder on the upper side of the leaves. I don't remember this in the problem description!

Rust produces orange/red spots on the leaves with dark margins. Didn't see that in the description either.

Rhizoctonia blight is not common in asters. It usually results in stem cankers. It's a soil borne disease and spraying leaves with milk, of baking soda, or any other home brew concoction is not going to do a thing for your asters.

Milk as a fungicide works for certain fungal diseases. It is well documented that milk can help prevent powdery mildew and black spot on roses. Baking soda has also been reported as effective on powdery mildew. What these two antifungal prescriptions have to do with an aster disease is beyond me! Prescribing a cure when you have not identified the disease is a waste of time and not good practice.
Reply:Yellow and brown is always an indicator of too much watering. Let it dry out for a bit before you water again. It will green up.
Reply:Several factors can cause the leaves of Asters to turn yellow %26amp; then turn brown.

Sometimes the lacebug sucks the plant juices from the undersides of leaves. "Leaves turn yellowish and eventually brown and fall off."

http://www.uvm.edu/pss/ppp/articles/aste...

It's more likely that dampness %26amp; humidity caused the yellowing %26amp; browning that you described. Asters like full sun %26amp; good air circulation. They like soil with good organic content kept evenly moist, and prefer that their roots be kept cool. If your plants are in clay soil, add some compost %26amp; lime to improve drainage.

In general, it's not unusual for older leaves to turn yellow and fall off when new leaves appear or when most of the energy of the plant is put into flowering.

Since this is common %26amp; the tall Asters can look lanky, it's a good idea to place plants like Mums in front of them to help cover up this flaw.

Good luck! Hope this helps.

How do I move Frikart Aster?

I moved into a new house and the previous owners planted Frikart Aster right beside peonies, 2 rose bushes, and delphiniums. They grew huge and nothing else did very well this year because of it. I need to move them to a bigger spot but I am not sure how to do it or when. Any suggestions would be very helpful. Thanks!

How do I move Frikart Aster?
Since they are a summer/fall bloomer I would move them in the spring when they are up quite well. Then with a hole ready for them and some bone meal mixed in the soil water the hole add a bit of the soil and bone meal mix and set it in the hole, remember not too bury it or leave too much above ground. You should have no problems. Hope this helps
Reply:With a Frikart shovel. Sorry I'm in one of my moods. Best to wait until spring. It's putting all it's energy into flowering right now. RScott

How does an aster plant propagate?

I have planted a few aster plants which are now drying up. How can I ensure its propagation in the next season. From seeds? Or root division? I am in a tropical country in the northern hemisphere where the aster is a winter plant.

How does an aster plant propagate?
If you have the New England Aster it's a perennial and should come back in springtime. But you can still save the seeds. Wait until the seedheads form fluffy tops. Then grab the fluff and the seed is at the end of it.

If you have annual asters, you can harvest seeds the same way. I've never tried propogating this one from cuttings, but I suspect it would be easier to grow it from seed.
